the interface is less polished than autodesk inventor's one, but any person with the experience of using cad software can easily use it. it's modular and community-developed, so you can extend its capabilities with several plugins and python scripts. the multi-platform functionality of the software is also a big plus.įreecad is free and open-source (the license is lgplv2+) cross-platform 3d cad software. the gui is intuitive and the user interface is also open-source, which makes it even more easy to modify or extend the program. it supports a lot of physics engines and the software is capable of simulating for many different scenarios. the program has a flexible python scripting environment and can be easily extended by third-party developers. the design can be exported to the various formats: dwg, dxf, idw, iges and others. the geometry is cleanly rendered and the parameterization is supported, including the ability to change the units of the parameters (millimeters, inches, etc.). it's fully compatible with dwg, ipf and iges formats and the interface is intuitive.
